I envy those people who are born with an internal compass. I don’t plan on getting a tattoo anytime soon but from young I knew that if I ever did get one it would be a compass.
I’ve always struggled with direction. Fortunately I had a mother who understood that was apart of my process. My blessing and curse is that I see many directions, but one person can only take one. What is the best one?
I know that I’m not the only person out there with this problem. For a long time my favorite quote was
Not all who wander are lost
But that was at a time when I made a decision that I was confident in although it seem odd to the majority of people. Over time I became comfortable with that “lost” feeling. My new favorite quote.
Everyday every single person is on a journey, ahead of them is the future – dark that no one can see into. In some ways everyone in lost even if not all of us feel it because nothing in life is guaranteed.Embrace the feeling. Take it as an opportunity to find a new direction. Discover something new about yourself or rediscover old parts of you that you’ve forgotten.
- Don’t fight the feeling, if you don’t have a sense of direction running around like a headless chicken doesn’t make it any better.
- Stay calm, keep still, even if it is for a few minutes, if you’re into that stuff, meditate for a little while.
- Do your therapy – whether that is finding inspiration online, talking to a friend, going to the beach, eating your favorite meal or sleeping.
- Tackle it with a fresh start, re evaluate and set your compass direction.
